Quanto parmigiano si può mangiare al giorno?

How much Parmesan can you eat per day?

Cheese abounds on Italian tables: it is one of those foods you never want to give up. Perhaps because we have dairy specialties with a unique taste that captivate the whole world? That's probably it. And one of the most loved specialties, internationally but also at home, is certainly Parmigiano Reggiano. A cheese with a unique and inimitable flavour, and particular organoleptic characteristics.

Parmesan is a moderately caloric cheese: a 100g portion provides approximately 390 kcal, mostly due to proteins and fats. The fats are unsaturated, and therefore useful for heart and skin health, but should not be underestimated. Precisely for this reason, it is important to pay attention to the quantity and frequency of consumption of this cheese.

Here's how much Parmesan to eat per day

In general, the recommendation is to eat a 40g portion of cheese no more than twice a week, because cheeses contain fats, sodium, and cholesterol which, if consumed in excessive quantities, can pose various risks to the body.

In particular, when it comes to Parmigiano Reggiano, the precise guidelines are as follows: it is advisable not to exceed 150g of Parmigiano Reggiano per week, whether consumed as a standalone food or grated over other dishes.

A tablespoon of grated Parmigiano Reggiano provides the body with approximately 25 kcal, and therefore, if eaten only as an accompaniment to other foods and in quantities not exceeding this amount each time, it can be consumed safely 6 days a week.

The warnings are the same as for any other cheese: do not overdo consumption, and drastically reduce quantities if you suffer from hypercholesterolemia or hypertension, to avoid causing problems for the body.

A final positive aspect to consider is Parmesan's great satiating power: compared to other cheeses, it is also recommended in the diet of athletes and people who need a lot of energy, and it is a perfect mid-day snack or even breakfast to curb hunger and keep it away for many hours.
